Custom Countertop Fabrication in Macon, GA

Macon Granite Countertops fabricates every countertop we install, in-house — granite, quartz, marble, and a couple of less common materials we’ll get into below. This page is really about the process behind any of our other service pages, for anyone who wants the details before picking a material.

Picking Your Slab

We don’t sell off a catalog photo. You come to the shop and pick the actual slab your countertop will be cut from, since natural stone varies enough from one slab to the next that a photo doesn’t tell you much. Lead time from slab selection to fabrication runs about a week in most cases, longer for less common colors that have to be special-ordered.

Edge Profiles, Explained

Eased and bullnose are the standard, no-extra-thought options. Beveled and ogee edges add a decorative line for a more finished look. Waterfall edges — where the stone wraps down the side of an island in one continuous piece — take more labor and a bigger slab, so expect that reflected in the quote. Mitered edges give the illusion of a thicker slab without the weight or cost of true thick stone.

Materials Beyond Granite and Quartz

Quartzite is a natural stone, harder than granite and more heat- and scratch-resistant, often mistaken for marble because of similar veining — worth a look if you like the marble aesthetic but not the upkeep. Soapstone is softer, non-porous without sealing, and darkens with age and mineral oil treatment — less common in Georgia than up north, but it’s growing in popularity for a more understated, matte kitchen look.

Book-Matching and Other Specialty Work

For islands or backsplashes where pattern continuity matters, we can book-match adjacent slab pieces — cutting two pieces from the same slab and flipping one so the veining mirrors across the seam. It’s a detail most people don’t ask for by name but notice immediately once they see it done.

FAQ

We’d rather you see it in person if possible — stone photographs inconsistently, and this is a big enough purchase that it’s worth the trip.
It goes into our remnant yard — worth checking if you’re also doing a smaller project like a vanity, since remnants cost less than a full slab.
Yes, within reason — curved edges, angled corners, and custom cutouts are all things we template for individually.
A week is typical for in-stock materials; anything special-ordered should be planned a few weeks out.
